Addis Ababa, September 27 (WIC) - Professor Tirussew Teferra, Dean of the Addis Ababa University College of Education, has won one of the most prestigious international awards, the Jan Amos Comenius Medal Award.

Professor Tirussew was selected for the award by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for his outstanding achievements and innovation in the fields of teaching and educational research.

According to Professor Tirussew, the award will encourage other young educators and researchers as well as contributing to the image of the country.

Professor Tirussew Teferra is the first Ethiopian ever to receive a Laureate award in the education sector.

Professor Tirussew will receive the award during the 48th session of the International Conference of Education (ICE) at the Geneva International Conference Center (CICG) on 26 November 2008, it was learnt.
