A joint statement released by the Community Organisations of Ethiopian Origin regarding the Debate on Ethiopian Federalism (3 March 2009) on Ethiopian National TV.  This joint statement highlights its appreciations to the Ethiopian government for its effort to achieve positive socio-economic and political changes in Ethiopia.  The joint statement clearly indicates its objections to the allegations of the Ethiopian opposition parties that Federalism in Ethiopian inherently wrong and dysfunctional. However the statement provided detailed explanations for the underlying basis for the promotion of Federalism in Ethiopia as the answer to the needs of nations and nationalities of Ethiopia.

Further it also provides some of the qualifications for democratic processes in the Western countries and highlights some of the salient points which determine the outcome of the general election in Ethiopia.  Finally, it urges all political parties commit themselves to peace, stability and prosperity in Ethiopia and urges them to refrain from providing incorrect, self contradictory and provocative information and statements that would increase tensions, misunderstandings, conflict and crisis in Ethiopia.   Harar Interest Advocacy Group International (HIAGI)     Board of Management  Australia
